Attire: Semi Formal

Graduating students must register to participate in Commencement happening Sunday, June 16th from 9:00 AM- 11:00 AM. Commencement registration opens on April 1, 2024, and closes on May 13, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. PT. More information will be announced closer to the date. • Join the Commencement Team and the Office of the Registrar via Zoom and learn everything you need to know about applying to graduate, when you will receive your diploma, and how to prepare for commencement. Register here. 
• Grad Fair | Stevenson Event CenterApril 10, 2024, 10 am - 5 pm PT & April 11, 2024, 8 am - 3 pm PT
• Stop by the Grad Fair to purchase your regalia, take a senior portrait, and meet with Alumni Engagement, Slug Cents, Career Success, and more! This event is optional. Schedule your senior portrait session here. (Link available soon)

• Order your regalia

• • Regalia is not required to participate in commencement. If you wish to wear a cap and gown, a link to order will become available in February 2024. 
  • The ceremonies will take place outdoors. Please exercise caution when selecting attire and footwear - high heels are not recommended.  
  • Graduates are welcome to decorate their caps as long as they adhere to the Student Conduct & Community Standards and do not obstruct anyone's view. 
  • Graduates are welcome to wear cords, stoles, flower leis, and kukui necklaces.

IMPORTANT: Please understand this is a SEPARATE process from "Applying to Graduate." 

This process ONLY registers you for the commencement ceremony and/or the Post-Commencement Virtual Celebration. You must apply separately to graduate via MyUCSC to receive your diploma and degree from the university.

Commencement Involvement: Please read below if you would like to be more involved in commencement. If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please sign-up using this FORM by Friday, April 12th, 2024 (This deadline is different from the commencement registration deadline because of the importance of selecting/rehearsing for the roles below).

• Multilingual Speakers

• • • A tradition at RCC is to welcome our guests and graduates in a variety of languages. (i.e. "Welcome family and friends to the 2024 Rachel Carson College Commencement ceremony!")

• Speak at Commencement

• • • We have traditionally had a student speech at Commencement. Each year we have one or more student speakers who address the audience on a topic related to the RCC theme and the spirit of commencement. You are also welcome to audition to address this theme by way of spoken word, poetry, or music.
    • If you are interested in speaking at commencement or what the prompt entails, click HERE. Auditions will be held for this role.
• College Service Award
  • Rachel Carson College recognizes several student leaders each year who have demonstrated leadership at the college during their time at UCSC and contributed to creating a stronger college community. You are welcome to submit a nomination for yourself or someone else who is graduating in 2024. Nominations will not be considered without an explanation.

• Senior Committee

• • If you would like to get involved in planning the Rachel Carson Commencement Ceremony, be sure to sign up for our Senior Commencement Committee by April 12th to receive the first email communication

We are actively looking into ways to make the Rachel Carson Commencement special, memorable and worthwhile for all of you graduating. Rachel Carson College will post updates on programs and activities for seniors here! We will keep you updated with those ongoing plans as we continue to plan for June!
